| The clock is ticking as Irving officials finalize plans to implode the former home of the Dallas Cowboys on April 11. The holes for the dynamite are being drilled, columns are being wrapped in fabric, and any spot inside or outside the stadium gives a clear view through the now-hollow structure. | The intellectual leader of a movement of thinkers remained humble through his many influential works, and his spirit of creative skepticism will be his legacy. After the plain pine box is lowered into the grave, the mourners are asked to come forward -- immediate family first -- and shovel dirt onto the casket. Only when it is fully covered, only when all that can be seen is dust, is the ceremony complete Such is the Jewish way of burial. Its simplicity, austerity and unsentimentality would have appealed to Irving Kristol, who was buried by friends and family Tuesday. Equally fitting... |

| IRVING -- City officials are attributing a 7 percent drop in crime from 2006 to 2007 to several police initiatives, including a rigorous program that screens everyone arrested to identify illegal immigrants and turn them over to federal authorities. The Criminal Alien Program has led to the deportation of more than 2,000 people since it began in September 2006, and according to city officials, it has helped push down the crime rate. "If you have another level of removal from the community, then perhaps you're not going to have at least those people to arrest again," Mayor Herbert Gears said.... |

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials in Dallas e-mailed a set of guidelines to the Irving Jail asking officials not to refer suspected illegal immigrants to them if they were arrested for a Class C misdemeanor. Because of that change, the number of suspects Irving turns over to ICE could drop by 60 percent, city officials said. "We are surprised by this action," Irving Mayor Herbert Gears said. "In fact, we cannot imagine how the... |
